Due to the volatile nature of dried milk powder, fires can occur as the powder
is being heated and dried. For this reason Fonterra decided to design and build
one common Fire Drier Control Panel that would replace all currently installed
panels on all of their New Zealand Dairy sites. This would provide conformity
across all of their sites.

B.W. Murdoch Ltd was hired as the main contractor to design the control system
within these cabinets and also provide field installation. Our brief was to design
twelve cabinets to house the electrical equipment, assemble and terminate
electrical components on to the gear trays and deliver each finished cabinet
to site.

We worked very closely with our client as each factory had a limited seasonal
shutdown period and each cabinet had to be assembled and delivered promptly.
This gave the site crew enough time in which to install the cabinets and
commission before factory start up began.

Work carried out included:

	Detailed logistics and pre-planning.
	Design twelve IP65 powder coated electrical cabinets.
	Design gear tray layout and assemble all trunking and din rail to the formica backplane.
	Assemble all electrical components including PLC’s, DC power supplies, breakout termination cards and wiring looms onto gear tray.
	Terminate all wiring including individual core labels.
	Deliver to each factory site.
