Project:	Mainzeal Ltd - Waikato Hospital Linear Accelerator for Cancer Treatment

Project Description:

In an effort to reduce the number of patients waiting for specialised non invasive
cancer treatment, Waikato Hospital management decided to install a fourth linear accelerator system.

A linear accelerator is a highly specialised piece of radiation therapy equipment
that very precisely targets a patient's cancerous cells.

Before the treatment systems could be installed a purpose built 4 storey building
was designed and constructed with concrete walls up to 2 metres thick around the patient treatment room.

This contract involved the installing and commissioning of the lighting, power and emergency lighting systems, as well as a new main switchboard, sub distribution
boards and incoming feeder cables.

A unique aspect of this project was the design and build of a safety system that
was reliable and durable enough to provide safety coverage for both staff and
patients. The system involved the interlocking of both the linear accelerator
system, a 2 ton neutron door and various emergency stops and door switches
on multiple building levels.

Work carried out included:

	Locating of underground Site services prior to relocation of building services
	Construction of 1000A main switchboard, sub distribution boards and control centre cabinets
	Provide cable supports on all levels of building and multiple penetrations through thick concrete walls
	Design, installation and programming of safety system
	Building pre-wire and final termination of all power and light fittings
	Supply and installation of CCTV system for patient monitoring
	Supply and installation of intercom system
	Supply and installation of Dynalite lighting system
	Commissioning of control systems with Linear Accelerator contractors
